Are you getting itchy?
All of this nice weather makes me want to get out to the garden, clear off the mulch and dead plants from last fall, and get ready for spring.
So that is what I did Sunday. People were coming to take raspberry canes from a different flower bed so I worked up front until they arrived.
So many plants are making their way.
The tulips are quite high.
The hollyhocks are making an appearance.
The sedum is in a tightly knitted group, making me wonder if I should not do a little separating.
And there are a few things to look forward to seeing.
Hello, foxglove. Never had one of these before.
And then there is this plant. I am still not sure what it is although my guess would be grape hyacinth. Hopefully the picture is here although it was not on my preview.
I am trying to leave some of the mulch just in case another nasty ole freeze comes out way. But let me tell you, that is really hard to do. Instead, I plan to plant scarlet runner and black-eyed susan vine on one section, and hyacinth bean goes to another place. While I am at it, perhaps I will throw down some poppy seeds.
How are you getting at spring gardening chores?

This sounds familiar. Your perennials are looking good! We made it into the upper 70’s today! Cleared out the front garden and hope to do the same with the back yard before this unbelievable warm spell ends.
I am about 80 miles south of you as the crow flies and I am amazed at the difference of weather. Then again, you have the lake breezes to keep you cooler in the summer time.
How funny. I love this, as I have nearly an identical post set to go live around 7 Thursday morning. It images the green that’s growing in our garden so far this spring. Great minds, my friend. Great minds.
By the way, good to see you over at my place yesterday! See you soon–I hope.
Hugs,
Kathy
I have to get back over to your place. I want to read about how your dad involved you in some of his crime capers.
I have on hyacinth and some mini daffodils already in bloom. I’ve been meaning to take a picture of them and use them in the header of my blog. I’ve had a rogue pansy that bloomed in December! And it’s been blooming since February! A very mild winter indeed! I loathe cleaning out my gardens. But after I’m done with it, I don’t have to worry about anything except an occasional weeding. Your garden sounds beautiful! I love hollyhocks. I’m trying to grow some Rose of Sharon right now. Not sure where I”m going to put them. I’m running out of room!
My husband does not like bushes but I have my rogue lilac that came from my back fence neighbor’s yard. I wish for Rose of Sharon. My pansies are not sure what to do right now although one in the shade garden did bloom a little.
It’s really nice to have all this spring foliage so early, but I hope we don’t reap repercussions later on in the season with a drought or excessively high temperatures like in May.
I’m envious. I spent a few hours last week bagging the garbage that blew in from all over the countryside this winter. Yesterday I watched it snow for a while….
I live at 5200 feet elevation, so spring chores will not happen until the end of April into the beginning of May. Have a Great Day!
I’m SO not a gardener! I appreciate a lovely garden, but I don’t want to be the one in it. I’m still waiting for a nice snow storm, which hasn’t happen all winter. Yes, I know I’m odd, but I’d rather think of myself as really, really special!
I like a good snow storm, too. Even if my feet would have been unhappy I wish we had had a few good storms.
Daffodils starting blooming about 10 days ago. Bambis haven’t eaten them yet. Grape hyacinths are blooming, too. Today I’m resting from reshaping the rock garden. The rocks are growing nicely.
Some of my flowers are poking up too but in Wisconsin I dare not remove any mulch yet. Even if it was 73 yesterday.
Managed to get out today and pull some weeds…they are going to take over if I don’t step it up….luckily it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so there’s a good excuse ….
I find pulling weeds out while it is raining a very relaxing past time – that is until it gets cold. That is when you come in for hot tea and a snack.
